“Spring is bursting with color and so are the crates at Subplot Recordings HQ. Several groundbreaking projects have crossed our decks over the frigid winter holiday and we can’t wait to help usher in days of staring at immersive blue skies and shining faces. We couldn’t wrap up this sentiment better than with Subplot Recordings label head, Jeffrey Tice’s new release ‘Cerulean’. Cerulean refers to a color of blue ranging between azure and sky blue. A color that helps connect wind, world, water and sky. As well as it connects artists from coast to coast with native talent from San Francisco and Texas respectively.

The original is a playful house music piece full of square wave bass, swung percussion, and renaissance era wind instruments. Cerulean is a joy to play with periodic percussion pauses, hi-cut breakdowns, and shifting field recordings. The highly sought-after and somewhat elusive San Francisco modular synths and vocals duo, Slope114 contribute their brand of Bay Area synthetic improv with new-jack era drum construction and perfectly placed vocal embellishments. Slope114 re-packages the bounce and accents with thoughtful effects automation and linear growth. Austin’s PointBender returns to the label for a heady take on the original. Buried beneath layers of smoke and confusion this remix takes the listener on an extended journey, bouncing from groove to groove but never staying anywhere too long. PointBender’s remix culminates into a breakdown defined by swirling noises, pads, and effects. From the bay to the border, Subplot is bringing quality music to your ears regardless of geography.”
